Innovative Methods to Treat Cancer

New and innovative methods have been introduced for the treatment of cancer. These methods, like immunotherapy and stem cell treatment, have become common cancer treatments. Innovative treatments using technology have become part of the common cancer treatments that are used nowadays. Treatments like immunotherapy, proton therapy, and hormone therapy are effective in treating cancer:

1. Immunotherapy
Immunotherapy is one of the common cancer treatments that are used for the treatment of cancer. It is a treatment where the body’s immune system is used to fight cancer. The treatment can boost the immune system and help in fighting cancer. There are different types of immunotherapy. This includes the use of monoclonal antibodies that are lab designed and target antigen on cancer cells, and destroy them. This is a type of targeted therapy, where the antibodies target proteins that help the cancer cells grow. This can ensure the permanent destruction of cancer cells. Checkpoints are present on the cell to identify if it is a healthy cell. Cancer cells can hide behind these checkpoints to ensure it is not targeted by the immune system. Checkpoint inhibitors are used to remove the checkpoints so the immune system can find and destroy cancer cells.

2. T-cell therapy

T-cell therapy is another form of immunotherapy. The T-cells are cells in the body that can fight cancer. In this treatment, T-cells are extracted from the body and their genes are altered to make them more effective in fighting cancer. These T-cells are then inserted back to help fight cancer more effectively.

3. Vaccines
Vaccination for cancer is a form of immunotherapy. It involves the use of vaccines to prevent cancer and also to fight cancer. The vaccines use cancerous cells to stimulate the immune system to fight cancer and destroy the cells.

4. Proton therapy
This is an advanced form of radiation therapy that uses protons to destroy cancer cells. Protons are positively charged energy particles. Proton therapy is a focused therapy where only cancerous cells can be destroyed. This ensures precise targeting of cancer cells, which can prevent healthy cells from getting damaged during the treatment.

5. Stem cell treatment
Stem cells are those that create blood cells. When someone has cancer, the stem cells can be destroyed by the cancer treatment. In stem cell transplant, stem cells from the patient’s own body, or a donor, are inserted into the body. These stem cells reach the bone marrow and produce new, healthy cells. This treatment is ideal after chemotherapy or radiation therapy where the existing stem cells have been destroyed. The body can reject stem cells causing problems. In such a case, medicines to suppress the immune system are given. This is a complicated therapy.

6. Hormone therapy
Hormone therapy, also known as endocrine therapy works by targeting cancer that needs hormones. By doing this, it can slow down the growth of the cancer cells or stop it completely from growing. It is mainly used in the treatment of prostate and breast cancers. The therapy interferes with the normal working of hormones in the body. It can, therefore, cause many side effects including fatigue, nausea, hot flashes, etc.
